WHAT IS SAUNA?
What is sauna (sau̇-nə) you may ask? It is a complicated, yet simple construct that involves bathing oneself and others in a small, often very hot, wooden room. However, sauna is much more than an ordinary bathing ritual or "sweat lodge" as some like to call it. For some 2000 years, Finnish peoples have used sauna to fight disease, birth children, and even win winter wars. In Finland, sauna is considered to be a remedy for any disability, disorder, and illness.
THIS SAUNA
Constructed out of materials from Michigan's Upper Peninsula, this sauna has a barrel-like design and a wood-burning stove; a standard feature of traditional Finnish sauna. It's barrel shape eliminates heat from being trapped at the top of the structure, unlike a square sauna. This allows inside temperatures to quickly reach an ideal 180 - 200°F. Additionally, it can accommodate four participants and comes equipped with all of the necessary tools and adornments for a cozy and relaxing bath.
